Plants

In 1996 the AMMEUX family started growing potato plants at the Mory site and the business now produces a dozen different varieties of certified plants on 180 ha for a total annual volume of 6,000 tons.

5 people are specialised in the production of potato plants on a dedicated farm in Mory, Pas-de-Calais. The transplanting, processing, and harvesting machines, as well as the storage and packaging facilities, are assigned strictly to the production of the potato plants. With more than 20 years of experience in the plant industry, the teams are 100% committed to the highest quality produce.

Production of transplants and seedlings

The farm also owns 2 greenhouses to produce various strains from transplantation and the construction of a 3rd greenhouse is now underway. The transplantations are produced in a laboratory by Le Comité Nord from a master plant. Le Comité Nord is an association of 455 seedling producers in the Northern part of France and ensures official certification of such seedling.

In the spring of every year, these transplantations are planted in the greenhouses. After 3 months in the greenhouse, the B1 seed potatoes from these transplants are harvested by hand, sorted, catalogued and stored in a refrigerator at 2 degrees. These B1 plants are then replanted the following year to ensure the production of strains for future years (B2, B3, B4, S, SE, E, A).

The production of such strains from transplants provides “A to Z” traceability and avoids dependency on third-party strains. In addition to ensuring full autonomy, it ensures the complete traceability, quality, and safety of the re-planted strains.

Quality French Plants

The AMMEUX family is committed to producing quality French plants. In 2018, out of 215 candidate producers, the family business was recognised by the HZPC as the best French producer of potato plants.

In 2017, HZPC came to shoot a video of the reception site of the seed potatoes during the harvest. In this video, the harvested seed potatoes are successively dug up, sorted, treated against storage diseases and then graded and placed in paloxes. These boxes are then stored in a refrigerator at 2 degrees. All the seed potatoes are graded at harvest time. This avoids handling the potatoes a second time during the winter and makes it possible to know the available volumes per size earlier.
